Ballooning
- Soaring in a hot air balloon is an unforgettable way to take in the spectacular scenery of the area. Flights depart from Ridgway, a scenic 38 miles from Telluride - a perfect setting for hot air balloon rides. Flights depart early morning.
Camping
- There are six camping choices in the Telluride area. They include the Telluride Town Park Campground, Ilium Campground, Priest Lake, Sunshine Campground, Matterhorn Campground, and Alta Lakes Campground. Camping Tip: If you are planning on camping in the Telluride area on or around the weekend of June19 & 20, please call ahead. This is Bluegrass Festival weekend and traditionally, securing a site is quite challanging. We suggest that if you are not attending the Bluegrass Festival to re-route and include Telluride in your trip either before or after that weekend. We want to make sure you can make the most of your time.
Dog Sledding
- Experience the breathtaking scenery of the area from a sled pulled by Alaskan sled dogs and huskies. Half-day, full-day and overnight trips are available.
Fishing
- Alpine lakes and rivers in the Telluride valley appeal to avid fisherman as well as novices who want to test their luck. Instruction and guided trips are available from local outfitters.
Glider Rides
- Enjoy a silent bird's eye-view of Telluride's slopes and surrounding peaks in a two-seat glider. Rides are $150 for a full hour or $90 for half an hour.
Golfing
- Did you know golf balls fly farther at 9,500 feet? Perched above Telluride, the Mountain Village is home to a par 71, 18-hole championship course with challenging holes and breathtaking panoramas.
Gondola Rides
- A ride on the free gondola provides spectacular views of the surrounding snowcapped peaks, access to hiking and biking trails on the mountain or transportation to the Mountain Village core for your shopping and dining pleasure.
Helicopter Skiing
- The ultimate adventure for true powderhounds is helicopter skiing in the hidden caches of fresh snow in Telluride's back country. Ski and snowboard adventures for intermediates and above are booked by the week or by the day. A day's skiing includes five runs (10,000 to 12,000 vertical feet), expert guides and lunch.
Hiking
- With a number of trails just out the front door, Telluride offers a wide variety of hiking including moderate hikes, to all day treks to summitting 14,000 foot peaks. Guided hikes available.
Historical Walking Tour
- Catch a glimpse of Telluride's boisterous mining days as you take a walking tour through our National Historic District. See where Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank and hear tales of Popcorn Alley. Guided tours available.
Horseback Riding
- Ride through golden stands of aspens and over alpine meadows covered with wild flowers during a horseback adventure. One and two-hour rides, day rides, and dinner rides available.
Hut Trips
- The San Juan Hut System offers the telemark or cross-country skier an incredible escape into the San Juan Mountains around Telluride. Over 56 miles of trails link Telluride to the towns of Ouray and Ridgway in the Mt. Sneffels Range. Huts can be accessed by beginner/intermediate skiers. Each hut contains eight padded bunks, propane lights, woodburning stove, split wood and kitchens. Equipment available for rental.
Ice Skating
- Skate in Town Park's lighted outdoor rink by day or night. The town rink is open from early December through late February, weather permitting. Guests can also test their skating technique on the pond in the Mountain Village. Jeeping
- Telluride's mining history has left a legacy of roads and trails through deserted ghost towns and over high mountain passes. See historic sites and take in breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, vibrant wildflowers and gushing waterfalls. Guided jeep tours available.
Mountain Biking
- Whether you prefer a challenging single track trail that winds through aspen forests or moderate 4 x 4 roads, a mountain bike adventure awaits. Bike rentals and guided trips available.
Mountaineering
- Expert guides offer complete instruction climbing, trekking, orienteering and mountaineering. Experience the exhilaration of our alpine terrain with custom tours especially tailored to your ability.
Nordic Skiing
- Skiers of both the classic and skating style can choose from 30 km of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain in Town Park, on the valley floor,in the Mountain Village and atop the Sunshine Express (Lift 10). Lessons, rentals, and tours are available.
Paragliding
- Take a tandem or solo flight over the breathtaking San Juans. A paragliding school offers instruction for all abilities.
Rafting
- For a wet and wild adventure, test the waters of the San Miguel, the Colorado, the Animas or the Gunnison rivers. From an ultimate wild river experience to a classic float, your river trip can last two hours or two weeks.
Ropes Course
- A challenge course at Faraway Ranch at Wilson Mesa includes an alpine tower, giant cable swing, artificial climbing wall and initiate activities. Full-day guided courses are ideal for families and corporate groups.
Sleigh Rides
- Enjoy a romantic sleigh ride pulled by a team of draft horses through apine meadows and wooded forests. After the sleigh ride, warm up to a delicious dinner in a rustic and cozy setting.
Snowmobiling
- Telluride's mining history has left a legacy of roads and trails through high mountain passes and deserted ghost towns. Knowledgeable guides interpret the history and scenery of the area as you drive down abandoned roads to historic sights.
Snowshoeing
- Another hidden gem lies in the alpine mesas surrounding Telluride. Pack a lunch, grab a pair of snowshoes and head up to Wilson, Sunshine or Hastings mesa for a walk above the clouds. Local sport shops rent snowshoes.
Swimming
- The public swimming pool in Town Park is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor day, Tuesday through Sunday. Lifeguards on duty. Admission is $2 for children (7 to 17 years old) and $3 for adults.
Tennis
- Public tennis courts are located in Town Park. Two courts are free on a first come first serve basis. The Peaks Resort and Spa also has two tennis courts and two tennis pros. Visitors not staying at the Peaks may attend clinics, lessons and tournament for an access fee.
